The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Migori County branch executive, Mr. Samwel Orwa Jasolo, has expressed concern over intimidation faced by teachers due to poor 2024 KCSE results.

Jasolo revealed that some political leaders in Migori County have issued threats to dismiss certain school principals over the disappointing performance, a move he described as counterproductive and fear-inducing for educators.

He highlighted the case of Kibuon Secondary School, where stakeholders have threatened to replace the principal, who has been in the role for less than a year. Jasolo noted that the school has seen a high turnover of leadership, with seven principals appointed since 2014.

The KUPPET official emphasized the need to grant teachers adequate time and support to improve results. He urged communities to address other challenges affecting schools rather than scapegoating teachers.

Jasolo also called for respect and autonomy for teachers, stating that their working environment must be improved to achieve better outcomes. Specifically, he pointed out the need for hardship allowances in Nyatike Sub County to motivate teachers working in the area, which is classified as a hardship region.
