Joseph Kairo Wambui, widely known as Khalif Kairo, a prominent car dealer, was rearrested on Tuesday shortly after attending a court hearing for a separate ongoing case.
Footage shared online captured when Kairo was escorted to a police vehicle outside the court premises.
The businessman, known for his dealings in high-end vehicles, is accused of accepting payment for an SUV but failing to deliver it to the buyer.
Earlier this month, Kairo faced court on charges of defrauding two clients of Ksh.2.1 million and Ksh.2.9 million in separate cases.
According to court documents, Kairo allegedly tricked Jeff Kyule Munane into paying Ksh.2,145,150 between July 10 and July 29, 2024, in Westlands, Nairobi. The amount was supposed to facilitate the importation of a Honda Vezel Hybrid from Japan, which never materialized.

In another case, Kairo is accused of defrauding Dona Ayalo Okoth of Ksh.2.9 million by falsely claiming he could import a Subaru Outback. This incident reportedly occurred in July 2023, with no vehicle delivered to date.
During a court session on January 13, the prosecution strongly opposed bail, presenting an affidavit from investigating officer Esther Mburu. The affidavit cited Kairo as a flight risk, referencing his dramatic arrest on January 11, 2025, and his alleged pattern of fraud.
The court also heard that Kairo had purchased an airline ticket to New York, USA, scheduled for January 12, 2025—just a day after his arrest. The prosecution argued this raised suspicions that Kairo was planning to flee the country.
Detectives alleged Kairo failed to justify his trip and convinced no one that he intended to secure funds abroad to resolve his legal issues.
Kairo remains in custody, with the prosecution emphasizing that his release could compromise the ongoing judicial process.
