Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga has been unanimously elected as the new chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Energy.

This committee oversees key areas such as fossil fuel exploration, energy production, regulation, and maintenance across the country.

Oginga takes over from Nyeri Senator Wamatinga Wahome, who previously held the position. As chair, he will be crucial in guiding discussions and legislative oversight on matters related to the Ministry of Energy, currently led by Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi.

In the same session, Wajir Senator Abass Mohamed was elected chair of the Senate Standing Committee on Devolution and Intergovernmental Relations. At the same time, nominated Senator Catherine Mumma secured the position of vice chair.
