As Kenyans eagerly await Raila Odinga's next political move, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader has assured the public that his decision will prioritize the nation's best interests.
Raila made a return to the local political scene on February 24 after his unsuccessful bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship in Addis Ababa on February 15. Speaking in Migori on Thursday, the veteran politician revealed that he is consulting widely before making his anticipated announcement.
He emphasized that his next course of action would align with the desires of the people, assuring Kenyans that he would not betray their trust.
"We will not disappoint our people. Whatever we do must be in the best interest of the Kenyan people. This is a consultative mission, and I am touring the country to gather views after what happened in Addis Ababa. The people have given me a blank cheque, expressing their confidence in our decision because they know it will be in their best interest," Raila stated.
Raila's comments come amid widespread speculation about his next political move, with some suggesting that he could forge a pact with President William Ruto.
The two leaders have recently shown signs of warming up to each other after years of political rivalry. Ruto had openly supported Raila's AUC bid, a gesture that Raila acknowledged and appreciated in his first address after returning from Addis Ababa.
Observers believe the newfound camaraderie between the two leaders could pave the way for a political alliance that may significantly impact the 2027 presidential election.
