Detectives in Kirinyaga County are searching for a 24-year-old man accused of killing his girlfriend and disposing of her body in a septic tank.

The suspect, the son of a well-known businessman in Ngurubani, has been on the run since the crime was uncovered.

According to Mwea-East Sub-County Police Commander Mohammed Jarso, a housemaid made a gruesome discovery while cleaning the washrooms. Shocked by the sight, she immediately alerted her employer, who then reported the incident to Wang’uru Police Station.

Investigators suspect the murder took place last Thursday before the suspect vanished. However, authorities have yet to confirm the identity of the victim. A forensic autopsy is set to be conducted to establish who she was.

“The suspect’s father himself doesn’t know the woman. We are working swiftly to uncover her identity,” stated the police. So far, the suspect’s parents and three employees have recorded statements at Wang’uru Police Station.

The father, visibly shaken, disclosed that his son had struggled academically and often demanded a stake in his business.

"He dropped out of university, and despite efforts to take him for rehabilitation and counseling, nothing worked. Now, he has committed this terrible crime and buried someone’s daughter near my home and business," he lamented.

He is actively cooperating with detectives to ensure his son is arrested.

Residents of Ngurubani have condemned the incident, citing growing concerns over femicide cases.

“We want him arrested immediately. His father is a respectable businessman, but the son has disgraced him,” said Jackson Maina, a resident.
