School activities at Koiyet Secondary School in Bomet County were disrupted on Monday morning after a student unexpectedly gave birth in the toilet. The Form Four student discarded the newborn into the pit latrine and then returned to join her classmates.
Phantom Analo, the Chepalungu sub-county police chief, stated that the school principal reported the incident, explaining that the 19-year-old student was seen bleeding heavily while seated in class. This alarmed other students, who immediately sought help.
The teacher on duty quickly responded and discovered that, after using the toilet, the student had attempted to hide the fact that she had given birth. The school principal then organized a team of staff and community members to retrieve the infant. Both the mother and baby were promptly taken to Sigor Sub-County Hospital and later referred to Longisa County Hospital for further care.
