A 49-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a 23-year-old woman.
Chuka Resident Magistrate Oscar Wakina delivered the ruling on Thursday, convicting Ruphas Micheni Kinyua for the crime committed on September 12, 2023.
According to court records, Kinyua deceived the victim by offering her a fake job as a house help. He approached her along a road in Mbogori, Chogoria, Tharaka-Nithi County, at around 9 p.m., promising employment.
The unsuspecting woman accompanied him to his residence, where they shared a meal. However, Kinyua later left the house, locking her inside.
At midnight, he returned, assaulted her, and once again locked her inside before leaving. The following day, on September 13, at around 1 p.m., Kinyua released the victim, handed her Ksh.100, and gave her his phone number, instructing her to call him.

On her way home, the young woman encountered her aunt, who had been searching for her. The aunt urged her to report the incident to the Mbogori Police Post in Chogoria, leading to Kinyua’s arrest and subsequent prosecution.
During the trial, Prosecution Counsel Emmaculate Hyimo presented strong evidence, including testimonies from four key witnesses—a doctor and the investigating officer. The prosecution also submitted medical reports such as the P3 form, PRC form, and treatment notes, which were crucial in securing the conviction.
Following the overwhelming evidence, the court found Kinyua guilty and sentenced him to a decade in prison for his actions.
