Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made explosive allegations against President William Ruto, accusing him of being the "true commander" behind Sudan’s paramilitary group, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
According to Gachagua, Ruto has been involved in illicit gold trade with RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, also known as Hemedti, allegedly to fund the RSF’s purchase of weapons amid their ongoing war with Sudan’s army.
In an exclusive interview with KTN, Gachagua claimed that the gold smuggled from Sudan is laundered through Kenya, helping finance RSF operations. He also stated that Ruto personally asked him in 2023 to invite Hemedti to Kenya under the guise of diplomatic relations.
“He couldn’t invite Hemedti directly because he was only a vice president, not a head of state. So he asked me to do it,” Gachagua revealed. “I later discovered it was all about shady business.”
Gachagua says he declined Ruto’s second request to invite Hemedti, citing the RSF leader’s international sanctions and involvement in a war that has claimed 150,000 lives and displaced over 11 million people. He alleges that when he refused, Ruto retaliated by forging his signature to extend the invitation anyway.

The former DP, impeached in October, said the planned visit was eventually canceled after he threatened not to host Hemedti. He also claims Ruto warned him, saying, “You will see me!”
Gachagua has called on the international community to impose sanctions on President Ruto, arguing that this would be more effective in resolving the Sudan crisis than targeting Hemedti.
