Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has alleged that his security detail was abruptly withdrawn shortly after he intensified his criticism of President William Ruto’s administration.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Muturi revealed that two police officers assigned to him—due to his previous role as Speaker of the National Assembly—were instructed not to report for duty. The security withdrawal reportedly occurred on Monday evening around 7:30 p.m.

Muturi suggested the move was politically motivated, claiming the officers were told to step down because he is perceived to be “fighting the government.”

“If this is another tactic meant to intimidate me, they’ve targeted the wrong person,” he stated firmly.

Muturi has recently emerged as a vocal critic of the Ruto administration, particularly condemning the rise in alleged abductions of young people following anti-government protests. He disclosed that his own son had been abducted and later released.

During his tenure as Cabinet Secretary, Muturi said he skipped Cabinet meetings to demand that the issue of enforced disappearances be addressed—a demand he claims was ignored. Eventually, President Ruto replaced him with Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Ruku, citing Muturi’s continued absence from official meetings as insubordination.

Since his dismissal, Muturi has accused President Ruto of dishonesty, engaging in corrupt practices, and using intimidation tactics against dissenting Cabinet members.
