Mohammed Abduba Dida, a former Kenyan presidential contender, has been released on parole from a U.S. prison after serving part of a seven-year sentence.
Dida was incarcerated at the Big Muddy Correctional Center in Illinois following his conviction on charges related to stalking and making threats.
Prison records show that Dida, now 50, was released on April 3, 2025, and will serve the remainder of his sentence under supervision outside prison until his projected release date of April 3, 2029.
The former schoolteacher was sentenced on two separate counts: a two-year term for stalking and transmitting threats, and a five-year sentence for aggravated stalking and violating a restraining order.
Following his release, Dida has relocated to his home in Minnesota, where he plans to revive a charitable initiative he established in 2017 — the Dida Foundation International. According to his wife, Amina Liban, the organization was registered shortly before his arrest.

“He’s currently at home in Minnesota and actively seeking office space to relaunch the foundation,” she told *Daily Nation*.
While the Dida Foundation is listed by *Charity Navigator*, a U.S.-based nonprofit evaluator, the platform notes that it lacks sufficient operational data to assess the charity’s performance or impact.
In 2024, Dida filed a lawsuit claiming his constitutional rights were violated during incarceration, citing restricted access to education and rehabilitation programs.
