The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has issued a public appeal for Philip Nahashon Aroko to turn himself in at the nearest police station. Aroko has been identified as a key person of interest in the ongoing investigation into the murder of Kasipul Member of Parliament, Charles Ong’ondo Were.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the DCI emphasized the urgency and seriousness of the summons:

"Philip Nahashon Aroko is required to surrender immediately to the nearest police station. He is a person of interest in the ongoing probe into the brutal killing of Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were. This directive is mandatory.”

Authorities are also seeking public assistance to locate Aroko. Anyone with credible information is urged to contact law enforcement through the toll-free numbers 999 and 112 or the DCI hotline #FichuaKwaDCI (0800 722 203). The agency has assured that all tips will be handled with strict confidentiality.

So far, nine individuals have been arrested in connection with the MP’s murder. Among them are Were’s bodyguard, Allan Omondi Ogolla, and his driver, Walter Owino. Investigators allege the duo may have ties to a criminal gang suspected of orchestrating the assassination.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has confirmed that some of the late MP’s close associates may have been involved in planning and executing the crime.

“We’ve made substantial progress in bringing the culprits and their collaborators to justice,” Murkomen stated. “It’s alarming to discover that individuals entrusted with the MP’s safety played a role in his death. Their actions were not only criminal but deeply treacherous.”

The CS added that those responsible would face the full force of the law, warning that the consequences would serve as a deterrent to others.

Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were was fatally shot on the evening of Wednesday, April 30, while stuck in Nairobi traffic. According to reports, the assailant was armed and accompanied by an accomplice on a motorbike.

The shocking incident has sparked public outrage and intensified pressure on security agencies to ensure all those involved are held accountable.
