Five tourists of Indian descent lost their lives in a tragic road accident at Gichaka village along the Nakuru–Ol Joro Orok road in Nyandarua County.

The devastating crash also left numerous others injured. According to reports, the tourists were en route from the Maasai Mara to Nyahururu in a mini-bus when the vehicle’s brakes reportedly failed while descending a steep hill near the Ol Joro Orok area.

The bus lost control as it approached a sharp bend near Uhuru Comprehensive School in Gichaka and veered off the road, plunging into a ditch.

The vehicle rolled several times before crashing into a potato farm, with the impact ripping off the roof. Nyandarua County Police Commander Stella Cherono confirmed that five people died instantly at the scene.

Emergency responders rescued the surviving passengers and rushed them to nearby health facilities, including Nyahururu County and Referral Hospital, St. Benedict Hospital in Nyahururu, and others in Nakuru. A total of 25 tourists have been accounted for so far.

One of the survivors recounted that he heard a loud bang before blacking out, only to regain consciousness in a hospital bed.

Doctors at Nyahururu County Hospital are working tirelessly to treat the injured, many of whom sustained multiple injuries in the accident.
