Kisumu City will likely face a water shortage after water levels at the main reservoir at Kibos Water Treatment Plant in Kajulu dropped.

This follows a drop in the water levels in River Kibos due to the adverse drought experienced countrywide.

The majority of Kisumu city is expected to see dry taps in the upcoming weeks if the levels drop any lower.

Thomas Odongo, the Managing Director of Kisumu Water and Sanitation Company (KIWASCO), stated that Migosi, Nyamasaria, Riat Hills, Kanyamedha, Otonglo, Ting're, Uzima, Mamboleo, Guba, Lolwe, Kanyakwar and Manyatta are the areas affected.

Odongo stated that as efforts to maintain a consistent supply are intensified, KIWASCO was prepared to provide a distribution timetable for the impacted districts.

"We shall institute a distribution schedule if the situation persists and may also introduce a water supply programme using water bowsers," he said.

Further, he stated that to prevent users from running out of the necessary good, the company has increased production at its main plant in Dunga, which uses Lake Victoria's water.

To protect natural resources, he asked locals to join conservation efforts, stockpile enough water, and reduce waste.
