The residents of Tana River will benefit from the Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project (HoAGDP), funded by the Word Bank.

This follows successful negotiations for the rehabilitation of the Hola Municipality water supply system by the County Government.

The HoAGDP seeks to enhance the connection between Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia by improving the movement of goods and people, digital connectivity, and access to social services to communities at designated locations along the targeted sections of the Isiolo-Mandera Regional Road Corridor.

The Tana River County Governor, Major (Rtd) Dhadho, hosted a delegation from the Ministry of Transport, the Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC) and the Kenya National Highway Authority (KENHA) at his official residence in Hola.

The Governor confirmed that the discussions centred on road and water projects which the county government has prioritized to be funded by World Bank, which will greatly impact the residents.

"We have recommended among other projects modernization of the Hola water station that will serve Hola Municipality and will be extended to village clusters. We have also highlighted the road that will link Hola to Nairobi and the airstrip in Daba," he said.

On her part, World Bank Funded Projects Deputy Coordinator Judith Kerich stated that they are on a scoping mission in Tana and that once feasibility studies are done, they would ascertain the correct financing needed for the rehabilitation of the Hola Municipality water supply.

"We are here today to discuss the priorities of the county to see where we can partner and collaborate in addressing the challenges being faced by Tana," she said.

Further, she affirmed the lender's partnership with the Tana River County Government to implement water projects.

According to the County Integrated Development Plan, Tana River County's development project will be implemented in partnership with FCDC, according to CEO Mohamed Guleid (CIDP).
