Sen. Dan Maanzo of Makueni believes that the country is experiencing a tribalization crisis due to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's comments that the government is a corporation with multiple shareholders.

On Sunday, DP Gachagua asserted that individuals who supported the Kenya Kwanza government are the only ones eligible for government contracts and positions.

"Our government is a corporation with stock. Some owners hold the bulk of shares. Owners own only a handful, and owners hold no shares. Your investment in this government must pay off. It's time to reap now that you've planted, tilled, applied manure, and used irrigation, he remarked.

Senator Maanzo responded to DP Gachagua's statements by saying that it is clear that residents of the Central and Rift Valley regions will profit the most from the government because they have the most voters in those areas. Gachagua is a native of one of those regions.

"Rigathi Gachagua, the deputy president, is highly trustworthy; they are in charge of a business, not a government. We are approaching a point where you want to tribalize the nation. They are not speaking from the heart when they speak with their words, "On Monday's Daybreak program on Citizen TV, he remarked.

"You claim that everyone has access to Kenya, but he is claiming that just two tribes—Central and Rift Valley—do. Nobody else is important."


He continued by pleading with the government to refrain from making statements that would tear the country apart and to provide equal assistance to Kenyans without ethnic ties.

"The constitution mandates that you must accept everyone after winning an election. It doesn't matter who elected me or who didn't, just like in Makueni. I provide services to all people equally "said he.

"If you are operating a business and not a government, then he (Gachagua) is extremely honest and he is telling us what exactly they did, and Kenyans should be conscious of what sort of rulers we have. We must truly detribalize the country. Equal opportunities should be provided to all Kenyans."
