Hunger-stricken families in Narok Central Sub County have benefited from 300 bags of beans and 260 bags of rice donated by the national government.

Ilmashariani, Olopito, Limanet, Siyiabei, and Pulunga areas are mainly affected by the ongoing drought that residents have benefited from the relief food.

The food was distributed by Narok Central Ag. Deputy County Commissioner Abdi Shakur Ali and Narok North Member of Parliament Agnes Pareiyio.

The area MP said that many families that mostly depend on small businesses for their livelihood had no food to place on the table.

The MP begged businesspeople to refrain from raising food prices in order to save the residents' lives from further hardship.

Shakur also expressed his gratitude to the government for providing food to the less fortunate areas, noting that chiefs, village elders, religious figures, and political figures would help to identify the most disadvantaged families who would benefit.

Schools will also be included in the distribution, according to the Ag. DCC, because many students arrive at class hungry.

Anyone who misuses the food for their own gain or otherwise strays from the intended usage will suffer severe repercussions, the Ag. DCC warned.

“We are closely monitoring the food and anyone who sells it or diverts the food for personal benefits will be prosecuted in a court of law,” he said.

He reaffirmed that the government has already distributed 19, 000 bags of subsidised fertiliser in the sub-county, therefore it is anticipated that food output will increase as farming has become more affordable.

Paul Kuria, a resident of Narok town, praised the government for the food delivery and noted that due to the ongoing drought and high food prices, many people in the region were sleeping on an empty stomach.

Mary Wanjiru, a local of Olopito, shared his feelings when she urged the government to keep providing emergency food to the county's most disadvantaged households.
