The Government has urged the contractor of Moi Stadium in Embu to fast-track the renovation of the Stadium.
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has called on the contractor to work both day and night to ensure that the renovation of the Stadium is completed within the next 45 days.
The renovation of the Stadium is in preparation for the June 1 Madaraka Day Celebrations to be held at the Stadium.
Speaking during a tour of the Stadium, the PS said that the venue for Madaraka Day Celebration was changed from Njukiri ASK Showground to Moi Stadium due to reasons related to the time and cost of constructing a new stadium at Njukiri.
The PS, who serves as the National Celebrations Committee's chairman, added that the Government changed the June 1 Madaraka Celebrations topic from affordable healthcare to a focus on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
"We want to focus on improving the economy which is the biggest challenge," said the PS.
According to Omollo, it will be a great chance for Embu County to consider ways to boost the local economy.
Omollo was accompanied by PS Jonathan Mueke from the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, PS Patrick Mariru from the Ministry of Defense, and PS Eng—Joseph Mbugua from the State Department of Highways.
The PS further stated that the Stadium was being renovated for about Kes300 million.
Cecily Mbarire, the Governor of Embu, voiced her trust in the contractor's ability to complete the stadium repairs on schedule.
The Governor claimed that the stadium refurbishment will result in numerous job possibilities for young people and citizens of Embu County, with 90% of the labour being locals.
Further, she added that along with the renovation of the Stadium, Embu will benefit from the Government's affordable housing programme set to launch soon.
Additionally, she noted that the Government is constructing a modern market in Embu, whose ground-breaking ceremony is set to happen before the June 1 Madaraka Day Celebrations.
