Mike Sonko, the former governor of nairobi county, is pleading with president William Ruto to help him get back his money.
While attending the launch of the Nairobi Rivers Commission, sonko said that president ruto taking over the country was the best thing for kenyans who had been persecuted by the uhuru administration
"Gachagua's money had been held unlawfully, it has been returned. We have seen people freed by courts. Kenyans prayed for me and the court freed me," Sonko said.
Sonko asked the president to intervene in the case where the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) wants to appeal the court's decision after he was acquitted in a lawsuit accusing him of money laundering charges. sonko wants his property back, citing that deputy gachagua got his back after being acquitted.

"I am ready to work with government, a lot of my money that was held by Uhuru Kenyatta, help me to get it back like Rigathi Gachagua. So that I help government and youths," he said.
The High Court froze approximately Ksh 18 million in ten savings accounts belonging to the former Nairobi governor in 2020.
Mike sonko was impeached by nairobi county MCAs in 2020 after 88 members of the county assembly and 27 senators voted to impeach him. the high court upheld his impeachment leading to his removal from office.
Sonko blamed former president Uhuru Kenyatta for his impeachment, saying that the former president was fond of meddling in the affairs of the county. sonko tried to vie for Mombasa county's gubernatorial seat but was barred by the courts from holding any public office.
Similarly, in 2022, the High Court ordered that Ksh.202 million from Gachagua's bank accounts be forfeited to the state as proceeds of corruption.
However, on February 1, 2023, the Asset Recovery Agency (ARA) returned the money to Gachagua, claiming that he had satisfactorily explained the source and legitimacy of the funds.
