On Sunday, US First Lady Jill Biden travelled to towns in Kenya suffering from the drought and appealed to wealthier nations to increase their donations as the Horn of Africa experiences its worst drought in decades.

With 22 million people in Kenya, Somalia, and Ethiopia at risk of starvation due to the record-breaking drought, Biden called for increased attention as she wrapped off her two-nation trip to Africa.

The majority of the help funding for the catastrophe, which has killed millions of cattle and ruined crops, has been provided by the United States.

"Surely we are not the only ones. To support these people in the region, other nations must join us in this global endeavour "In a relief station in the arid county of Kajiado, south of Nairobi, Biden spoke.

"Sadly, you are aware of the conflict in Ukraine. Turkey recently had an earthquake. Although there are many conflicting interests, it is clear that people are starving in this place."

After five consecutive failed rainy seasons, localities could not provide enough water to residents, and Biden heard from parents trying to feed their children.

When Biden visited Kenya, the drought was one of the main topics of conversation. Other topics were food security and farming in a changing environment.

The 71-year-old community college lecturer visited an informal settlement, spoke with women and youth leaders, and laid a wreath in memory of those who perished in the 1998 American embassy bombing in Nairobi.

She hopes to build on the US-Africa Leaders Meeting in Washington late last year, where President Joseph Biden declared his country was "all in" on the eagerly sought-after continent. Her visits to Kenya and Namibia came before that.

Jill Biden's trip was the first by a top White House official to the continent since her husband took office. With Russia's invasion of Ukraine last year, Africa has become a new front in the international conflict.

Biden said in Namibia that the US is committed to helping African nations raise their voices at the UN and other international bodies.
