Moses Wetangula, the speaker of the national assembly, has joined religious leaders and other political leaders in condemning the supreme court on its ruling over the LGBTQ community.

The speaker of the national assembly took to social media to condemn the ruling made by the supreme court, saying that the order opens the ground for "unintended and unhelpful consequences", claiming it will destroy cultural norms in the nation.

In the ruling, the supreme court ruled that it was discriminatory to prevent the LGBTQ community from registering as an NGO for the advancement of their rights. This ruling threw out an order by a smaller court that had denied the group from registering as an NGO.

Wetangula's statement comes after religious leaders condemned it saying that it goes against the constitution of kenya.In a statement released on Sunday, Bishop Calisto Odede of Christ Is The Answer Ministries referred to the decision as inconsistent.

Odede argued that the decision went against cultural norms and urged Kenyans and Christians to disagree. Odede claimed the decision sets a negative precedent and that others who breach other social norms, as well as paedophiles, could apply for similar protection.
