A traffic officer in Mombasa was killed when a motorist who was fleeing a traffic stop dragged him for a distance

the officer, identified as Julius Marwa, was controlling traffic at Buxton junction at the time of the incident when he tried to stop the motorist. The driver of the vehicle, identified as a Silver Toyota Ractis, declined to turn off the car's engine to allow the police officer to check the car.

Officer Marwa allegedly opened the driver's car door in an attempt to turn off the engine when the driver Mr Osman Jama Abdi, stepped on the gas speeding off with the officer hanging from the vehicle.

Marwa is said to have been pushed out of the car after driving for about 200 metres and was run over by the rear right wheel, sustaining a head injury and multiple pelvic fractures.

"He was rushed to Jocham hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival," read part of the statement.

Officer marwa's body has been taken to the hospital's mortuary, awaiting an autopsy as an investigation continues.mr abdi was arrested hours later after being found hiding in his locked car in the beach road estate in Nyali.

In other news, police are hunting for a suspect after a woman's body was found dumped in river theta in Kiambu county. An eyewitness said that she discovered the body floating in the river as she went to fetch water and immediately alerted other nearby women.

The woman's relative said that she received the news of her death while she was at home."I don't know what caused her death. It took me some time to realize she was my relative," she said. The body of the deceased was taken to a nearby morgue for postmortem as investigations into the death continue
