Two suspected gangers were shot dead in Kisumu's lolwe estate in a failed attempt robbery, the two were in a group of five robbers who have been terrorizing the residents for a long time.

Karanja Muiruri, Nyanza Regional Police boss confirmed the incident saying that three other suspects escaped the scene of the crime.

"Residents spotted them and raised the alarm, attracting attention from other tenants. The two were cornered by locals who subjected them to mob justice," Muiruri added.

The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) mortuary awaiting an autopsy.

At the same time, police have implored with the public not to take the law into their own hands.

In other news, eight nyumba kumi elders have been arrested over arson claims in Embu. Lincoln Muthee Kithaka the Chief in charge of Kanduri South Location and 8 other nyumba kumi officials allegedly broke into a house belonging to Mr njue, beat him up and finally set the house on fire.

Inquiry file no.1/2022 was opened to determine what exactly occurred, and on February 24, 2023, police based at Manyatta police station received a report recommending the trial of the suspects.

Cases of mob lynching in the area have been on the rise. Police have labelled the trend as criminal and have warned the public not to take the law into their own hands. Every day, up to five cases of mob injustice are reported in the country.
