On Friday, Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen informed the Senate that the contractor would likely begin working soon.

"It became necessary, and we questioned whether the initial Ksh. 9 billion would be the usage on something particularly elaborate with specific beauty. To restore the road to particular standards and proper drainage so that we could subsequently add these other extra concerns, we worked with a budget of Sh3.5 billion, " he said.

Murkomen stated that the modifications will significantly reduce annoyance along the always congested Mombasa road.

The CS provided more information, stating that the repair would take at least seven hours to minimize any inconvenience on the road.

Murkomen further stated that the government would renovate the Sh88 billion road.

"We previously moved all of the utility lines, including those for water, sewage, and electricity, and in the process, road destruction occurred. As a result, we are responsible for paying for the repairs", Murkomen added.

While the expressway aims to relieve traffic on Mombasa Road, Uhuru Highway, and Waiyaki Way, it is now congested since it was made accessible to the general public.

Throughout the 27km freeway, there are 11 toll booths, 54 toll plazas, 54 cameras, and 126 cameras inside the toll booths.

At 30-minute intervals, recordings take place to monitor the road.

A sophisticated monitoring system can identify emergencies, spillage, vehicle reversals, and pedestrian crossings.

The dual carriageway features 11 interchanges, including those at James Gichuru Road, Standard Gauge Railway, JKIA, Eastern Bypass, and Southern Bypass. It also has businesses at Capital Centre, Haile Selassie Avenue, Museum Hill, Westlands, and Mlolongo.

The expressway is a class A, four-lane dual carriageway with a design speed of 80 km/h, measuring 18.2 km on the ground and 8.9 km elevated.

One of former president Uhuru Kenyatta's legacies is the project.
