After responding to a summon issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) relating to his Karen home raid charges, former Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang'i has been imprisoned at the DCI offices since 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

His lawyers are now worried that the DCI might be covertly trying to detain Matiang'i so that they might arrest him.

According to Matiangi's counsel, Danstan Omari, who spoke with Citizen Digital, the cross-examination was meant to be about the summons. Still, when they got to the DCI, the questioning changed as the investigating officers started interrogating Matiangi about his assets.

A person can stay silent under Article 49 of the Constitution. The former Interior CS apparently exercised that right by declining to answer any of the questions. The officers then announced that he would be in police custody.

They left the former CS and his crew in the boardroom after saying they needed to acquire his fingerprints.

The legal team for Matiangi claims that they have anticipatory bail orders and would not permit their client to be held against their will.

DCI still needs to respond or provide an update on the questioning.

A few days ago, Matiangi had left the country for the UK, claiming he had something urgent to discuss with his counterparts in the UK in matters regarding his private business.

Rumour has it that members of President William Ruto's administration threatened to punish him for publicly representing the opposition to the ascent to power of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

Dr Matiang'i claimed he informed top security officers of his travel intentions.
