Joseph Boinnet, a former Inspector General (IG) of police, has been nominated by President William Ruto as Deputy National Security Advisor.

The National Security Council Act was when Boinnet was appointed, according to a Gazette announcement from Thursday, March 9, 2023.

Part of the notification states, "It is notified for the general knowledge of the public that Joseph Boinnet is appointed the Deputy National Security Advisor by the National Security Council.

Monica Juma, a former defence cabinet secretary (CS), was also chosen as the NSC secretary.


For the benefit of the general public's understanding, the National Security Council has announced Monica K. Juma's nomination to be the Secretary of the National Security Council.

Boinnet had previously run for governor of Elgeyo Marakwet in the 2022 elections.

Before then, he had resigned from his position as Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) for Tourism in the administration of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Before being chosen as CAS, he was the police inspector general.
