Professor John Lonyangapuo, a former governor of West Pokot, has been nominated by President William Ruto to lead the board of directors of the North Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency.

The President made several appointments, per the gazette notification dated March 10, 2023.

David Chumba Chemweno's appointment by Mr Uhuru Kenyatta, the former head of state, has been rescinded by the President.

The position of Prof. Lonyangapuo will last until December 3, 2023.

Prof. Lonyangapuo's appointment comes just ten days after his Kenya Union Party (KUP) announced its departure from Mr Raila Odinga's Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition.

According to the former governor, the decision to dump Azimio followed a compromise with party members who objected to the course that Azimio was currently on of rejecting the current administration.

"When we became aware of Azimio's efforts to stir up unrest in the nation, our relationship with them was terminated. We had a peaceful election conclusion. It makes no sense, adds nothing, and is ridiculous to show right now; let visitors visit their farms as there are affordable seeds and fertilizer available.

Wait five years while remaining silent. It is only a brief time," During the press conference Prof. Lonyangapuo said.

In the August election, Simon Kachapin of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) defeated Prof. Lonyangapuo in his bid to retain his position as governor.

As the elections were completed and people needed to return to work, Governor Kachapin's predecessor calmly turned over power to him.
