Interior Ministry Secretary Kithure Kindiki says he would make a significant announcement in the next several hours to refocus the second stage of the ongoing security operation in the North Rift.
Kindiki expressed outrage at the rebellious criminals roaming the six counties and maiming innocent criminals. He claimed this trend calls for more drastic action to end banditry and free the affected areas from decades of tragedies and poverty.
"These robbers are terrorists. Every day I get messages telling me that they are killing people. He said this is just step two; I'll introduce further measures".
He continued, "I implore you to let me close my eyes and free northern Kenya from the grasp of terrorist organizations.

Obama addressed Friday in Naivasha at the Senate Committee on National Security, Defense, and International Affairs' induction retreat.
He added that the multi-agency team would remain in the region until the threat disappeared.
Kindiki pointed out that the new Constitution has played a significant role in the security forces thus far restraint and stressed that previous similar operations had followed various sets of laws.
He declared that the government's first priority is to exercise prudence and safeguard innocent civilians while operating within the law's bounds.
"In terms of what our officers can do, this specific operation is underway by one of the least advanced constitutions in the world. We are giving our security following the Constitution, unlike in the past, especially the most recent one on Mount Elgon where the military was involved", he said.
He also revealed that the criminals' method of operation was now known but claimed that many of them were mixing up with the locals forcibly to blend in and utilize defenceless bystanders as human shields.
Earlier on Friday, President William Ruto assured citizens that the government is decisive in dealing with bandits and urged the KDF soldiers to partner with the education ministry to rebuild schools that bandits destroyed to resume.
