Once the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) dismissed his case, former Cabinet Secretary for Interior Fred Matiangi exhaled with satisfaction. In a statement that was made public, DPP Haji claimed that there wasn't enough evidence to prove Matiangi's guilt on both counts. He consequently instructed the DCI to stop issuing Matiangi any more summonses.
Notwithstanding Matiangi's fierce criticism of President Ruto, it has come to light that the president played a role in his lawsuit being withdrawn. According to a Nation story, Matiangi was free after three lawmakers met with Ruto on Thursday.
According to news feeds, Ruto met with Borabu MP Patrick Osero, Nyaribari Masaba MP Daniel Manduku, and Kitutu Machache MP Anthony Kibagendi to make a case for the former CS.
The three MPs begged the president to pardon Matiangi. Ruto denied involvement in Matiangi's problems, claiming that Matiangi had misled investigators about a raid on his home.
