On Tuesday, goons attacked three County Assembly (MCA) members who hosted President William Ruto during his official visit to the Nyanza region last weekend.

While three others managed to escape, the other three were assaulted by goons on the County Assembly grounds.

According to Migori County police commander Mark Wanjala, they were summoned to the assembly grounds around 3 p.m. as tensions rose. Over 50 individuals, including the goons, had taken control when they arrived.

"The youths claimed they attacked the MCAs on Saturday because they were attending the presidential event," Wanjala said. "Of the six MCAs, only two gave police statements, while the others fled the assembly."

According to the police commander, the assaults are being investigated, and arrests will be made soon.

"I knew there was a plan to attack us when I started raising concerns about why Migori hasn't had any development projects for the past seven months, where the bursaries are, and the poor condition at Migori Referral Hospital," said North Kanyamkago MCA George Omamba.

He spoke to the press after recording a statement with West Kanyamkago MCA Peter Mijungu at the Migori police station.

Omamba stated that after feeling uneasy during the Tuesday session, he inquired about their security and was assured of it by speaker Owino Likowa.

"I discussed it with the sergeants-at-arms and one official police officer present, and it appears they were under duress," he said.

When he left the assembly, the youths beat him and threw a stone at his neck and mouth.

Omamba ran for cover behind a parked police car a few meters away, with youths hot on his tail, attempting to take the key and drive away with him.

As the youths pursued Mijungu, who had fled and locked himself inside one of the offices, the police were able to seize the keys.

Before being apprehended and rescued by police, the youths broke down the office door and attempted to smoke him out.

According to police, the youths also smashed the windscreen of East Kanyamkago MCA Norman Ogolla's vehicle as he entered the assembly. He was able to escape.

Central Kanyamkago MCA Eunice Odii, North Kadem MCA Samson Olima Obonyo, and North Kamagambo ward MCA Osewe Collins are among those said to be targeted.
