Residents of Moyale County have been advised not to feed their donkey's weed to improve their performance.

According to a donkey care organization, locals in the area have turned to feeding weed to their donkey animals to make them work longer and harder.

The local inhabitants mix marijuana with donkey food, the donkey welfare team claimed during a vaccination campaign for the area's donkeys.

According to the welfare leaders, locals mix the weed with food, and the donkey overworks without knowing it has consumed marijuana. We condemn this, he added

He further asserted that some donkeys are being used to transport diesel, which is terrible for their health because it might cause burns to their skin

he added that Some are transporting diesel from Ethiopia using the donkeys. That is animal abuse. Sadly, we only speak, but no action is taken to protect the welfare of the donkeys.

The animal welfare organization demanded harsher punishment for anyone caught feeding weed to donkeys, adding that they should face legal action for violating animal rights.

There have been worries that the donkey would go extinct if nothing is done because the number of animals has drastically decreased in Kenya.

There are thought to be 1.15 million donkeys in the country at the moment, but the figure is expected to decrease in the coming years if no solution is found
