According to Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party Leader Raila Odinga,The police officer who passed away last month during anti-government rallies in Kisumu was his grandson.

As he denounced police brutality, Odinga, who spoke on Thursday at a town hall meeting at Nairobi's Ufungamano House, revealed that he was biologically connected to the slain officer.

He drew attention to the suffering of defenceless Kenyans who suffered various wounds during the protests.

"Last week I visited Kenyans in Mbagathi and Kenyatta Hospital; young people were shot by the police. Their only crime was participating in a legal demonstration because the police had been notified," Odinga said.

"Police knocked down a young man in Kisumu. That young man knocked in Kisumu by the police is my grandson. His mother is my niece." he added.

The Azimio chief continued by claiming he made it possible for the deceased officer to join the police.

Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome confirmed the officer's passing but stated that Corporal Ben Oduor died from wounds acquired during protests on March 30 while receiving care at the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu.

Initial reports stated that Oduor, who was assigned to the Keroka Police Station in Nyamira County, was maintaining order near the Jamia Supermarket when he was attacked by angry demonstrators who savagely surrounded him and kicked and punched him.

Following a post-mortem on the deceased's body, sources claimed that Oduor had been struck by a police car.
