Raila Odinga, leader of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya, has hinted at the opposition organisations' requests to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to launch far-reaching changes.

The Azimio leader said during a town hall gathering in Murang'a on Thursday that the coalition party wants the IEBC decentralised and 47 electoral units established where results will be final.

This is a departure from the current system, in which results are collected from all 290 constituencies and tallied at the Bomas of Kenya, the national tallying centre.

“Tunataka kukubaliana vile tutafanya mabadiliko kwa IEBC...tunataka IEBC moja ikuwe hapa Murang’a County...ile matokeo inatangazwa hapa Murang’a inakuwa final...ingine ikuwe Kiambu, Laikipia na kadhalika...iwe 47,” he said.

Odinga's idea differs from how the IEBC conducts its presidential elections, in which the national tallying centre collects results from all polling stations and proclaims the winner.

Azimio's leader now wants the national tallying centre to tally results from the 47 regional IEBC tallying centres solely.

“Hatutaki Wakenya tena warudi kwa uchaguzi baada ya kupiga kura inabadilishwa,” said Odinga.

Odinga also mentioned plans to reintroduce the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) constitutional amendments that look into revenue distribution across counties.

"Tunataka pia ile proposal tuliweka kwa BBI kuwa 'one man, one vote, one shilling' irudishwe kwa meza," he said.

The former Prime Minister, who subsequently addressed a gathering at Kenol market, claimed that Azimio's campaign to reduce living costs is unstoppable.

“Ninataka bei ya unga ishuke chini…gharama ya maisha irudi chini…wale wafanyikazi wa serikali walipwe vizuri,” he said.

Leaders who followed Odinga to Murang'a praised the suggestions and insisted that the opposition leader had won the poll, necessitating the opening of IEBC servers in the 2022 presidential election.
