President Ruto broke his silence on Monday on the Shakahola massacre in Kilifi, where 58 people were allegedly starved to death to meet Jesus.

According to the President, people like Paul Mackenzie, the controversial preacher associated with the cult, do not belong to any church but to prison.

President Ruto called Mackenzie a criminal masquerading as a priest and linked the atrocity, which left 112 people missing, to terrorism.

"What is happening in Shakahola is akin to terrorism." "Mr Mackenzie, who poses as a pastor, is a terrible criminal," President Ruto stated on Monday.

"Terrorists use religion to justify their heinous crimes." People like Mackenzie use religion to accomplish the same goal."

Meanwhile, six more victims were discovered on Monday by detectives conducting shallow grave exhumations in Shakahola, Kilifi county, bringing the total number of dead unearthed to 58.

In other news, the Kenya Red Cross confirmed that 112 persons had been reported missing at the Malindi Sub-County Hospital's trading desk.

Mackenzie, a notorious preacher, allegedly indoctrinated his followers, with some dropping out of school and others quitting their professions to follow a religious delusion.

Members of what is now called a religious cult were advised to fast themselves to death in exchange for the chance to meet Jesus.

Hundreds of his followers, drawn from all regions of the country, are thought to have abandoned their homes, with some selling their belongings before travelling to Malindi to join the murderous fast.

Detectives have still to excavate more than 50 graves discovered on Sunday, while the number of those still alive is unknown.
