The National Transport and Safety Authority has dismissed the licenses of four public service vehicle saccos following tragic road accidents involving some of their vehicles.

According to the board, the licenses of PSV operators involved in this month's recent occurrences have been terminated immediately.

Before they are cleared, the drivers must also pass a safety compliance examination before they are removed, according to him.

The exercise will include a roadworthiness check of all their vehicles, an assessment of driver qualifications, a driving ability examination, and evidence of full conformity with the PSV Regulations, 2014.

Taita Taveta Sacco was engaged in an April 15 disaster that killed ten people; Tahmeed Sacco, where four people died; Team Swat Logistics, and Kyoga Hauliers Kenya Limited, where five students died.

The transportation authorities also outlined measures to ensure compliance and restore sanity on the roadways.

"All PSV saccos have been handed a 30-day notice to situate that they operate a minimum of 30 vehicles as per NTSA regulations or have their licenses revoked," Ali explained.

The authorities further stated that all vehicles must have a valid inspection, road service licenses, valid driving licenses, and PSV Badges for all operating drivers and conductors.

Installation of certified speed limiters by CMTE, KEBS, and the Authority is another stringent method to rein in rogue drivers.

"The Authority will offer both technological and policy guidance to the National Police Services to ensure that their mandate regarding traffic law enforcement is fulfilled," the agency stated.

Careless drivers have also been warned, even as the NTSA and Police crack down on motorists who break the Traffic Act and related legislation.

"Section 40 of the Traffic Act, the Authority, in collaboration with the National Police Service, shall begin the suspension, revocation, and/or re-testing of any driver who is observed driving in such a manner as to pose a risk to the public." "For clarity, this shall include motorists driving recklessly, carelessly, and/or dangerously," Ali stated.
