The Judiciary will receive Kes22.9 billion in the 2023/2024 Financial Year.
This is after the government increased the budget allocation from 18.8 billion to Kes22.9 billion to strengthen and institutionalize judicial independence.
“In line with Kenya Kwanza’s pledge to strengthen and institutionalize Judicial Independence, the judiciary’s allocation has been increased from Kes18.8 billion to Kes22.9 billion in the next financial year,” reads the statement.
President Ruto pledged to enhance funding for the judiciary by at least Sh+3 billion annually for the following five years during the November 2022 launch of the State of the Judiciary and the Administration of Justice annual report.
He declared that he will stick to his pledge to support funding and independence for the criminal justice and judicial systems.
Further, Ruto said he is committed to increasing its (budget) by Kes3 billion to ensure they hire the requisite staff and build ICT facilities to enable the Judiciary to deliver its mandate.
“We intend to increase to empower the judiciary and the criminal justice system as required by the constitution as well as respect the decisions and orders of the courts as they relate to the executive.”
Additionally, the government has taken a value chain approach to the budget and has committed a total of Kes267.7 billion to nine value chains that will mainstream the Bottom-up transformation agenda.
The value chain approach maps the production process throughout the value chain to the final market transaction.
The resource allocation in the value chain approach to budgeting ensures efficiency by eliminating gaps and duplication.
