A storm is coming in Zimbabwe as citizens follow the ugly divorce drama involving late former President Robert Mugabe's sole daughter, Bona Mugabe, and her husband of nine years, Simba Mutsahuni Chikore.

It comes after a superb wedding attended by several heads of state.

The wedding cost an estimated $4 million and was shown live on state television.

Her late dad gifted her $100,000 (Sh13.64 now) and 55 head of cattle during the wedding.

Mrs, the dictator, filed for divorce in March 2023, citing irreconcilable differences, after revealing that she had been living apart for nine months.

They are the parents of three children. Mrs Mugabe requested full custody of the children and $2,700 (Sh368,280) for each child per month until the children reached 18.

Mr Chikore was suspected of infidelity in 2015, and Mrs Mugabe's father allegedly sought to intervene and warn his son-in-law.

In response, Mr Chikore filed a countersuit against his estranged wife, and he claimed a portion of the Mugabe family's immense riches.

Mr Chikore sought an equal share of every property obtained throughout their marriage, whether through donations or employment.

According to media reports, Mr Chikore identified as marital property 21 farms, over 25 upmarket residential residences, money, corporations, and mobile assets totalling millions of dollars.

He also rejected Mrs Mugabe's demand for sole custody of their children, instead requesting shared custody.

Mr Chikore appears to have contributed to the accumulation of this fortune through his savings from past employment and earnings and donations from his late father-in-law when he completed special missions for him.

Mrs Mugabe, on the other hand, asked the court to put property division aside and focus on granting her a divorce.

According to the BBC, concerns have been raised over whether Mrs Bona owned all of the properties Mr Chikore claimed she did, as the late Mugabe's spokesman stated that both of them did not own the 21 estates and were leasing them from the state.
