Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has expressed condolences for the death of Mukami Kimathi, the widow of Mau Mau warrior Dedan Kimathi.

He characterized her as an enduring emblem of Kenya's freedom war and someone who exemplified the true spirit of patriotism daily.

"Throughout her life, Mama Mukami showed what genuine nationalism means and how citizens are obligated to work against the advancement of their motherland," he said.

"Indeed, as a true patriot, she was never unable to play her role as a mentor and a leader worthy of imitation."

Uhuru stated that, despite recent health issues, Mama Mukami has consistently advocated for the welfare of her family and the country.

He stated that she continued to encourage everybody she interacted with to work for the country's sake.

"Those of us who had the honour to communicate with her will cherish the moments we shared and thank God for allowing us to engage with such a great warrior," he said.

Uhuru urged leaders to follow in the footsteps of the late Mama Mukami and fight for the more significant benefit of the country.

He offered her family peace and courage in their grief.

Mama Mukami died Thursday night while seeking treatment at a Nairobi hospital for breathing troubles.
