Mukami Kimathi, the late independence fighter, will be laid to rest at her family home in Njabini, Nyandarua County, on Saturday, May 13, in a burial service in which the state will be heavily involved.

As said by Gachagua, who hosted the legendary revolutionalise family in the Harambee House on Thursday at Ruto's request.

"After consulting with the family, we have decided to hold the funeral service on Saturday at her home in Njabini, Nyandarua County." "During the service, President Ruto will lead the government," Gachagua stated.

He added that Dr Raymond Omollo, Principal Secretary of the Interior, will chair the national funeral committee entrusted with preparing Mukami's funeral.

Nyandarua Governor Moses Ndirangu will lead a similar committee at the county level.

Mukami, the widow of famed independence warrior Dedan Kimathi, died on Thursday night at 101 at a local hospital.

The deceased had been in and out of the hospital since January 5, when she was brought to a local health facility with Pneumonia symptoms.

She was released on January 12 after Ruto signed off on her Ksh.1 million bills barring her from leaving the premises.
