The inaugural Sunday service at New Life Prayer Centre and Church was held on 7, May, 2023, the first  Sunday after its leader, Pastor Ezekiel Odero, was released.


Because Odero was still in detention awaiting a decision on his release on bond last Sunday, the church was closed and no service took place.


However, there was a brief confusion when the church's Sunday service began when a group of police officers showed up.

The officers arrived as early as 5 am, according to Pastor Ezekiel's attorney Danstan Omari, to prevent the service from taking place.


As churchgoers worried about the likelihood of yet another Sunday without service, they allegedly sealed off the area.


They arrived at the church's gate at five in the morning and blocked the entry. They intended to stop the service from happening, he said.


Danstan Omari claimed that they requested a court injunction to stop the police from occupying the location and preventing service provision.
