On Monday, a 17-year-old girl drowned while collecting firewood in the River Romolo at Gesiora hamlet in Suna West, Migori County.
According to Kuria West sub-county police commander Cleti Kimaiyo, the deceased was climbing a tree while fetching firewood when she fell into the river and drowned. He claimed that other children washing clothes by the river attempted to save her but could not.
According to Kimaiyo, the deceased's parents indicated he had epilepsy. The body was taken to the Akidiva Hospital mortuary for an autopsy, and burial plans are underway.
This comes barely a day after A grade three kid drowned Sunday evening in a river near the bridge in Gendo village located in Gwasi East Sub Location inside Suba South constituency, Homa Bay County.

While washing her clothes in the river, the third-grade student drowned. The 12-year-old girl was with her brothers at the time of the event. The river was reportedly swollen by the ongoing rains that lashed numerous parts of the country.
According to Andrew Ombisa, chief of Gwasi East Location, the girl went to obtain water from the bridge while washing their clothes, and she slipped and drowned in the river.
