The government has announced that applicants for new identity cards would now receive them within 21 working days.

On Wednesday, Immigration and Citizen Services Principal Secretary Julius Bitok stated that the processing timetable is intended to expedite the issuing of ID cards in Mandera and other border counties.

"We are determined to make it easier for citizens to obtain essential services such as identification cards and other documents." "As a result, we have directed that no applicant must wait more than 21 days from the date of application to receive his or her ID," Bitok stated.

He was addressing at the opening of the Civil Registry Services (CRS) office in Lafey, Mandera County, for the issuance of birth and death certificates.

The PS said last week that birth and death certificates will henceforth be completed on the same day of application.

Mandera has one of the lowest birth and death registration rates in the country, at 13% and 6%, respectively. The national average is 86%, whereas the state average is 55%.
