President William Ruto has named former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa to the Kenya Water Towers Agency Board.

On May 19, 2023, the news was made in a Gazette Notice.

Echesa was appointed to the board for a three-year term.

He succeeds Robert Kariuki, who former President Uhuru Kenyatta chose in the final days of his presidency.

He was earlier nominated by President Uhuru as Sports CS in 2017 but was removed on March 1, 2019, after graft charges tarnished his ministry.

In the 2022 General Election, Echesa was a prominent component of Ruto's campaign team and a member of the Kenya Kwanza campaign team in Western Kenya.

He campaigned on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket for the Mumias West parliamentary seat but was beaten by Johnson Naicca, elected on an ODM ticket.
