Kisii County DCI officials and police officers discovered unlawfully repackaged sugar in a two-story structure in Magena, Kisii County.
Area OCPD Charles Opondo verified the arrest of a middle-aged woman in a sting operation as a result of a tip from members of the public. She allegedly colludes with unscrupulous business owners in the area. The syndicate repackaged sugar from Tanzania and Uganda into sacks labelled Mara, Sony, and other local sugar mills.
During the Monday morning raid, the accused were seen functioning in a polluted atmosphere without any weighing devices.
Opondo stated that they had previously notified officials from the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) to conduct an inquiry before exposing the sugar to a lab test.

The DCI has initiated a manhunt for individuals suspected of being involved in the illegal sugar trade in Mogonga, Kenyenya, Ogembo, and Kisii.
Locals claim they read peculiar business within the story building because its gate was constantly locked.
This comes as the government continues its statewide crackdown on illicit sugar, which is said to have entered the country despite being detected by authorities.
