Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has asserted that Azimio leader Raila Odinga is persistently seeking a handshake with his boss, William Ruto.

Nonetheless, Gachagua emphasized that President William Ruto is an astute individual who will not succumb to such pressures aimed at power-sharing within the government.

"Our president is not a fool, he won't allow to bring on board the handshake people and destroy his government," Gachagua said on Friday.

Speaking at a roadside rally in Embu town, Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua claimed that the former prime minister, Raila Odinga, has rekindled his efforts to undermine William Ruto with the intention of power-sharing.

Gachagua urged the opposition leader to accept that Ruto emerged as the President by defeating him in the General Election held on August 9, 2022.

"That man of protests has started disturbing our President and wants a handshake, will you accept?" Gachagua posed.

"In any case, when voters rejected the man of riddles[Raila], they knew the kind of person he is."

In his address, the Deputy President stated that he had advised the President to reject such maneuvers, highlighting that the handshake was accountable for the perceived shortcomings of former President Uhuru Kenyatta's administration.

"We have asked that man to take a walk to Bondo and leave us alone because that handshake destroyed Kenyatta's government," he said.

Gachagua encouraged the residents of Embu to actively support the reelection of President Ruto for another term of five years in the upcoming 2027 elections.

"When you have a good leader don't just give them five years," he said.

Gachagua, a prominent critic of Raila, has persistently asserted that the opposition leader is seeking a political arrangement to join Ruto's government.

Contrarily, Raila has made it clear that his intentions are focused on electoral justice and improving the quality of life for all Kenyans, rather than pursuing a handshake with Ruto.
