Nominated MP John Mbadi has accused President William Ruto of lying to Kenyans during his presidential campaigns leading up to the 2022 General Election.
Mbadi, speaking on Citizen TV's Day Break program on Thursday, said Kenyans are frustrated with the rising cost of living because Ruto has instead vowed to reduce it from where his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta, left it.
The nominated mp said President Ruto must carry out his manifesto, but he lied about it to kenyans. Mbadi said that ruto should have informed Kenyans that he would implement the housing scheme by levying 3% of their salaries to fund it if elected. That information was missing from the manifesto.

President Ruto was elected on a campaign of lowering the cost of living. Still, eight months later, Kenya is embroiled in a contentious discussion over the Finance Bill 2023, which intends to boost revenue as the Kenya Kwanza government seeks to collect more from Kenyans.
"Ruto told Kenyans that Uhuru was overtaxing them and that he would work to reduce taxes." Today, taxes are increasing, and you still need to inform Kenyans of this. So, the question is, are you carrying out the manifesto you presented to Kenyans?" Mbadi posed for the camera.
"You were deceiving Kenyans, and they deserve an apology." Those who voted for you are entitled to an apology. He added that they are irritated because they expected things to be completed,” he added.
The Finance Bill 2023 proposes, among other things, a 16% VAT on petrol and a 3% housing fund, which it claims is not a levy. A petition to challenge it has already been filed.
Meanwhile, the budget for 2023/2024 will be presented to Parliament on June 15.
