To help workers cope with rising fuel expenses, two Nigerian governments have reduced working days for public employees from five to three days per week.

The Edo and Kwara state governments announced the measure, which will remain in effect until they find a solution to the problem.

According to the Daily Post, Kwara State Chief Press Secretary Murtala Atoyebi stated in a statement on Wednesday that "the government was set to give succor for employees who were unable to be covered by a decrease in workdays due to the peculiar nature of their official duties."


Following Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki's revelation that the measure will also see employees working from home during the shorter working days, Atoyebi's comments.

"Until further notice, the Edo State Government is reducing the number of work days that civil and public servants will have to commute to their workplaces from five to three." state employees will now be working from home two days per week, according to Obaseki, as reported by Business Post.
