On June 8, chaos erupted in Parliament, forcing Millie Odhiambo, a representative for Suba North, and Rosa Buyu, a representative for Kisumu West, out of their positions. This led to putting parliament proceedings at a standstill.

Amidst the chaos, Speaker Moses Wetangula found himself at the center of attention as he delivered his ruling on the removal of Nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege from her post as the deputy minority whip. However, Wetangula declared that he would not authorize Chege's removal, citing an ongoing court petition that contested the decision. This announcement further heightened the tensions within Parliament.

The MPs from Azimio, however, strongly disagreed with this choice and insisted on remaining in the Parliament. Speaker Wetangula gave the Sergeant at Arms instructions to exclude the two MPs from Parliament as hostilities grew more intense.

Odhiambo and Buyu refused to be expelled in defiance of Wetangula's orders, escalating the already sweltering environment inside the chamber. Several Azimio MPs surrounded Sabina Chege in the midst of the commotion and demanded that she be fired right now.

A group of Sergeants at Arms surrounded Chege to shield her from the escalating tensions in an effort to restore order. Speaker Wetangula made the decision to halt the legislative session for a 15-minute break after recognizing the uncontrollable scenario.

"Lower the mace. The house will take a recess of 15 minutes," directed Wetangula, hoping to defuse the mounting tensions and allow tempers to cool down.
