Residents of Kirinyaga are filled with delight and excitement as the county's and the region's largest medical institution prepares to open on Tuesday.

Kerugoya Level Five County Referral Hospital, which President William Ruto will inaugurate, will provide significant relief to locals, who will be able to obtain a variety of specialist services they have previously had to seek from facilities outside the county.

Governor Anne Waiguru initiated the five-story facility that stands tall in Kerugoya Town to provide county citizens with accessible, inexpensive, high-quality health services.

It is a result of the county's development program, The Mountain Cities 2032, which identifies Kirinyaga Central constituency as the "Wellness City."

Irungu Kamau of Kerugoya town is one of the citizens excitedly awaiting the hospital's opening.

He stated that the presence of an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and several theatres would increase the provision of specialized medical care, lowering the number of referrals they have been subjected to.

Another Gichugu resident, Peter Njuki, stated that the new hospital is a gift from Governor Waiguru to the county. "We are grateful to have elected a transformative leader who sees possibilities beyond the norm." This hospital can only be compared to some of the high-end private hospitals in Kenya, yet it will be available to us without cost." He paid attention.

Emma Karaya, who lives near the hospital, claimed that patients have had to seek referral services in private hospitals both within and outside the county on numerous occasions.

She stated that establishing the Level Five Hospital will considerably improve services such as ICU, renal, and many others.

According to Asad Abdalla, Imam of Kerugoya Mosque, the excitement facility is one of a kind and the most significant project delivered in the county since devolution, and it will revolutionize the county's medical care capacity.

He stated that the institution had raised the bar for healthcare service delivery. "We haven't had a public facility with the services that the new referral hospital will provide." We didn't have an ICU in Kerugoya, but we now have one that is completely equipped and will ensure that patients in need of critical care are well cared for." The Imam stated.

Social media has also recently been humming with comments about the hospital's launch. Members of numerous Kirinyaga-based social media forums have expressed hope that the facility will be a game changer in the county's healthcare service delivery.

Many agree that infrastructure development is vital to providing good healthcare services and improving a society's social well-being.

George Karoki, County Executive Committee Member for Health, stated that the hospital would provide comprehensive outpatient department services, inpatient services, and specialized medical services such as paediatrics, ENT, oncology, dermatology, orthopaedics, neuro-paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, maternal and neonatal care.

He stated that the new hospital, which has an inpatient capacity of 341 beds, will relieve pressure on Kerugoya Level Four Hospital.

He stated that the ward beds are fitted with oxygen gas produced at the hospital's medical gas plant.

"The presence of a medical gas plant improves our county's preparedness for any unprecedented high demand for oxygen, such as the one caused by Covid-19 some time ago." We are better prepared to handle patients requiring specialized care because we have a well-equipped ICU." As stated by the CEC.

He said that the hospital has a fully equipped emergency and crush trauma and casualty wing, as well as an X-ray centre and operating theatre. He reassured county people that the new hospital would provide exceptional care.
