Guinness Word Records (GWR) has finally reviewed Nigerian Chef Hilda Baci’s record for the “longest cooking marathon by an individual”.

Baci, 27, on May 15 surpassed the 87 hours 45 minutes record set by Indian Lata Tondon after clocking 93 hours and 11 minutes, cooking 100 different dishes.

“Following a thorough review of all the evidence, Guinness World Records can now confirm that Hilda Effiong Bassey, better known as Hilda Baci, has officially broken the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual), with a time of 93 hours 11 minutes,” GWR said in a statement on Tuesday.

After reviewing all the footage, we're delighted to announce that Hilda Baci is the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon (individual) 💫

GWR noted that while Hilda attempted to set a record of 100 hours, almost seven hours were deducted from her final total because she mistakenly took extra minutes for one of her rest breaks early on in the attempt.

"As with all longest marathon records, the participant is allowed a five-minute rest break for every hour of continuous activity." If these rest periods are not taken, they can add up. During the effort, they were the only times Hilda could use the restroom or sleep," according to the statement.

The GWR stated shortly after Baci's challenge that they were not in a rush to declare the record official until they reviewed all relevant evidence related to the challenge.

"We're aware of this amazing record attempt, but we need to review all the evidence first before officially confirming a record," GWR tweeted on May 15.

Hilda said she tried the Guinness World Record to "put Nigerian cuisine on the map" and "inspire young African women to chase their dreams."

"I also decided to break this record in order to truly push my limits and test my abilities," she continued.
