Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga has requested that the courts summon Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for alleged contempt of court.
The former leader of the outlawed criminal gang was brought before a Nakuru court on Tuesday, accusing Mr Gachagua of making public comments about a case in which he faces many accusations, including membership in an organized criminal group.
Part of the court statement reads that The court owes it to the sanctity of the trial and proceedings before it. Under the general rule of law, statements that amount to sub judice are prohibited. The case details should only be discussed in court.
Njenga urged the court to summon Gachagua, alleging that his comments against him amounted to contempt because the case was still pending.

"Where this is established, the court will punish you." "In this case, I've been asked to summon the person in the name and form of Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, who is accused of making comments that amount to sub judice," the judge added.
However, Njenga's requests were denied, with the court stating that it was not satisfied that there was a violation.
Njenga has already been questioned about allegedly addressing a meeting on May 11, 2023, in the Wanyororo district of Nakuru County to "encourage support" for the illegal criminal gang Mungiki.
He is also accused of engaging in criminal activity. He is suspected of inviting others to the stated meeting in the Wanyororo area, where he is charged with providing Mungiki-related orders.
He's also accused of having "a military backpack strap, property of the National Police Service (NPS), that is suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained."
